I'll take your word for it NH. Hopefully the brass/bronze isn't worn too much. They tend to wear differently and can be rather ragged so for this fix you might have to file out even more to even things up. Grease is good.

You guys are the greatest.
The car is new to me. I understand that it is a very early 1959 (probably actually a 1958 dressed up like a 1959) but is a bit of a frankencar with a B18 engine. It is a non-overdrive transmission with the smooth cap like in those last pics. I'll put on some grippy gloves and give loosening a try. I bet I find that pin is worn, broken, or not even there at all. Cheers, jb |

The smooth dome cap unscrewed just like the hex version, no problem. The pin, spring and ball were perfect, well lubricated. Unfortunately the slots in the turret looked like someone had taken a chainsaw to them.
Permanent fix will require either filing out the eroded slots to a bigger width and milling a large bush to fit in the larger slot, or adding material and filing back to original size. I’m thinking that JB weld won’t last very long under that abuse. Anyway, I fitted some temporary bronze bushes for the moment which removed most of the slop. Thank you again for your help. Jake |
