I just spoke to Clive Brook in Bradford. They said that the recall only appears to affect the D2 and D4, based upon 'their' experience since the recall letters went out. They are yet to have a call (following a letter going out) relating to a D3. It may or may not affect the D3. I was told not to worry. There have been no fire incidents in the UK... I'm going to call Volvo Customer Services next.

Ok, I just spoke to Volvo Customer Services (01628 422522).
They confirmed that there IS a safety recall against my registration number (it's a D3 engine). A letter will be sent out to me within the next few days. Once I receive the letter, I should book the car into the Dealership. They will check to see if any of the symptoms are showing. If so, the inlet manifold will be replaced. Volvo Customer Services told me that there have been no reports of fire in the UK, or anywhere else. This is purely a proactive recall. Hope that helps.

Mine is currently having the inlet manifold replaced. The EGR cooler is also blocked...they are running pressure tests to make sure there is not a more serious issue.
I am now concerned that there will be ongoing issues with this particular engine..I have had quite a few diesels and this is the first one I have ever had EGR problems with. I'm not sure these issues are only related to short journeys or low mileage (although I'm sure it doesn't help!).

OK...spoken to Volvo and car has failed the pressure test...
Does anyone know if Volvo contribute to these repairs?

The bill was around £8700 and Volvo contributed 90%. The car was 4 years 2 months old with a full Volvo service history. Hope you get it sorted.

It's 'excessive air leaking past the inlet valves in cylinder head'.
Head needs removed with valves replaced and reseated. Also needs cooler and possibly EGR valve. Fingers crossed....
