Unhappy SATNAV full postcode

I know there have been many posts on this so apologies for bringing it up again, but I am getting conflicting information.

I have a 2009 model. The inbuilt satnav displays these details:

HW P/N 0031260715 - S/W P/N 0031285426 - MAP P/N 31260919
SW Version 00001286/02380 and map version AEU_06_200801E

I can only look up partial postcode and I want full postcode.

Navtech confirmed by simply buying map upgrade (which is all they provide) I will not get full postcode functionality, so a waste of £215 if I went for that.

They said I would have to ask the software provider about this, I believe it is Garmin, but there is no info that I can see on upgrading the software, ie not as simple to do as getting new maps.

So I assume it is the SW numbers above which I have bolded which are the ciritical items here.

Has anyone actually got a software update as opposed to a map one, and if so how did they get this, and how much did it cost ??

Thanks !!

On my TomTom I get automatic map updates but when I get a new map download I also have to download the UK and European post codes which are held in a different file. So I guess that all these SatNavs treat postcodes as a position overlay hence as you say it's no use getting a new map to give you postcodes for it.

You can get firmware update DVDs from your dealer about £15 they should have one though and can do yours if necessary , not sure on the post code situation though , it will give you 3d map views , have you got that?

have a look at:

thanks Clan. The problem I find when speaking to the dealers is the lack of knowledge on certain items, such as the SatNav... I have put a email into Volvo directly on this as they should in theory have the ultimate say on what options I have. I think it is very poor given the cost of this in built system if they cannot provide a software update to change this. Though I'd be over the moon if the firmware update at £15 solves this..... I am sure others have said they managed to get full postcode so I hope it is possible.

I have seen that link thanks. Unfortunately it just covers the map side and also highlights the unfairness for pre 2010 dirvers, as we have to pay £215 to qualify for a free 2nd update. Whereas the 2010 owners get 2 free map upgrades just like that... Glad I supported the volvo brand in 2009 and am being rewatrded for that earlier loyalty !!!!

TomTom costs £31.80 for 4 map updates per year.

Volvo need to get more competative methinks!

I just inserted the 2010 maps last week, and it sat for what seemed ages doing an update - not sure if that is firmware - it looked linda like it....

Volvo RTI - 2010.1 - Europe (MMM/P2001)

I have not seen any difference after update (other than new maps of course...).... and did look for release notes but found nothing of note....

Being an older unit, no 3d maps....

I got a reply from Volvo who basically told me to contact my dealer, who in turn could contact Volvo's technical department. Anyway I asked my dealer who finally got a reply from Volvo after a few days, and he has told me that the latest update will support full post code, cost £216.

What slightly concerns me is I also got a quote from another local dealer before hand and he said the update disk cost was £216 but it was just maps and pointed me to Navtechs website to get details on the update - so back to square one as Navtech don't control the software, just the maps.

So if Volvo have got it wrong then I'll be asking for my money back.......

I pick up the disk on Saturday, so I'll update you once the disk has loaded the software......

Hi,

I have a 2005 XC70 and I am currently using a 2008 map set that does not provide any facility to use postcodes. I will be very interested in your update as I would really like to get the full postcode facility. Does anyone know if this is possible?

Regards

DD

Sounds promising ! I have been turning in circle myself for the last 3 month (...so to speak) trying to figure out what upgrade is required to have full postcode facility.

Could you post the full details of maps, SW, etc after upgrade as in you initial post ?

Cheers
