The weights given in the manual are related to gearbox and tow bar

As to towing more than the cars weight
Landrover defender s2 curb weight 1090kg - tow capacity 3500kg
Volvo 240 curb weight is around 1300kg

The most crucial thing is correct loading

The old series Land Rover only had a capacity of 1800 k, surprisingly.
