Default Changing seats

Morning folks, hope your well,

I've got chance of a set of good leather seats, local, for my 99 v70 tdi/2.5d.

The seats are from an 'R' reg, so 97-98.

I'm assuming I will encounter problems with the SIPS, airbags etc. mechanical trigger vs electronic?

Is there anyway around this?

Do all v70s have seat air bags? I remember reading somewhere that it was an option?

Cheers
Ben

Yes you will encounter problems as mechanical vs electrical on the later models are incompatible with each other.

Few work around's

1 If your not fussed if the seat Srs works either remove the bulb in the dash or wire it up to the oil presses light.Your call on that one..NOW que the what if you kill someone, that's illegal etc etc blah blah brigade!!
Only an option and not a recommendation from me.

2 Use your original seats and swap the seat covers off your 98 donor set.Bit of a fiddle but not a particular hard job

3 Source a set from a later car instead so they are compatible with your sts ecu.

4 Some have fitted resistors (no idea what ohm) to fool the ecu.No idea if that would deploy them in an accident or not.Being mechanical I would hazard a guess they would same as they would in option 1.Obviously I have no proof this would work and is merely a guess.

Your call
Enjoy

I've not but an interesting concept.
Possibly a bit of a Russian roulette with the drivers airbag😂😂.
Look what you've done now with the moral police..They will be up in arms.
I can feel their eyes burning in to the back of my head as we speak.

Cheers folks, much appreciated.

I'm assuming it isn't as simple and it's not advised to swap the actual airbag modules over in the seats?

Interestingly (or not) I have a 99 V70 T and I removed the passenger seat to clean the leather last week, and even though there's the SIPS logo everywhere the seat didn't have a SIPS module installed.

Why would you do that and create more work for you.To do that you'd not only have to strip both seat covers off both sets of seats but dismantle and rebuild at least 4 seats.

Just swap the skins over, and whilst you're there move your passenger seat base to the drivers seat - will generally be less worn.

Swapping the skins is not a hard job, and can be done with pliers and zipties. Hog rings are better but honestly zipties work just fine.

I thought Rudi's point 2 of swapping the covers was a good idea, Cokeh's added swap of the seat base cushions seals the deal for me. I've had the cover off of a Volvo seat before and it's not that tricky, and done the seat swap in a Renault Espace too.
