XC90 2016 electronic parking brake not releasing
Hi. I've had an XC90 D5 2016 for a while now and while it's a brilliant car..... just last Monday on way back from work, a warning light/message about "parking brake service required" came up on the dash. Pulled over to a safe spot to visually inspect the rear brakes for any damage but they seemed fine. Turned car off and back on hoping that would resolve the issue but no luck. Continued home and tried to engage parking brake after parking but it wouldn't work. Left car off and in park. Went back after about 30 minutes and parking brake was working all of a sudden. I thought it was one of those things. Decided to call and get it booked in for a diagnostic/service the next day. Got in car the next morning.... everything worked fine. Decided to get new rear pads fitted by a local garage hoping that prevent the issue from happening again as the pads seemed a bit below average. Car run fine, brake pads were changed and all was well till the next time I got in the same day to go to Tesco and got the error "Parking brake not fully released", and the car wouldn't move after going in drive, neither could I release the parking brake myself. Read about a reset online, and did that and was able to get it out of park. Got back from the shops and again engaged parking brake. Engaged alright but that was it. It wouldn't disengage. Parking brake light just kept flashing on dash and upon trying to accelerate it wouldn't budge. Like it was cemented to the ground. Honestly didn't even suspect parking brake would fight over 200 horses lol. Managed to reset it and send it to Volvo in Bristol the very next day for diagnostics, and after about 3 hours I was hit with a work estimate of close to £600 for a "modification" that had to be made to the parking brake, as they found a fault in the module. They also handed me a sheet full of codes they pulled from the car and said the "part/wire" for the "modification" would have to be ordered from Sweden??. A little confused about all of this and would appreciate any information, advice or help. I know it's been a long read but I wanted to give as much info as possible. Has anyone experienced this as well? Any SPA XC, S or V model with the electronic parking brake?

If your car is fairly low mileage ask them to apply to volvo for a Contribution ... they are usually pretty good with things like that .
