I saw the tech show the service guy, the tool he had to show them was certainly not blunt IMHO - I suspect there is a bit of "poking around" going on with trivial cuts in the rubber.

I had the one side replaced as it actually has a slow puncture I think (about 1 psi a day) and I'll never be able to track it down - plus the video did show the large cut. Right hand side was very trivial IMHO, no way you'd see the cords.

Was funny though, they marked the front pads as 30% worn, replaced them last week :-D

....and the rears at 95% worn, waaaay more left than that, could see it in the video!!
who was this with?

(so i can make Sure i Never go there _)

I won't name as I can't prove anything, but it's a nice pointer to have a look over your tyres and stuff yourself before you go to any type of "service".

I drive off road, climb and decent rock steps as much as 3ft high. No cuts in my tyres that would warrant mot mention let alone failier.

Someone's generating work.

Would it be people who speedily change tyres by any chance. Had run ins with them in the past as have daughters. They especially target women it would seem from their experiences.

Paul.

I think it's politely called 'Upselling'.
To someone who takes an interest in their car and its maintenance it's annoying and smells bad, but a lot of people these days have no interest in their cars other than as a way to get from a to b, so when the mechanic sucks his teeth and says the tyres are bad, the brakes are worn, they just think he's a very nice chap keeping me safe and doesn't it cost a lot to keep a car.

"upselling" ,,
id go with a much different word,, esp as the O/P had replaced the front pads the prior week,,

My wife has a company car and it recently went in to the main dealer for a new headlamp bulb. 1.5 hours later to change 1 lamp - needs 3 new tyres due to cuts, but the lease company won't authorise it at a main dealer it needs to go to one of their appointed tyre outlets (Kwik Fit). Really shouldn't be letting you drive it dear, it's illegal....

So off to Kwik Fit who I think can be Shysters - only one tyre changed. Minor cuts to the others but still legal and serviceable....
