I hate selling cars on ebay.

The person who put the offer in originally said he'd collect/pay for the car on 'Monday afternoon or Tuesday evening'. He didn't show or drop me a line to let me know he wasn't coming on either day.

I dropped him a message via ebay yesterday and he assured me he would be coming tonight. Well its 7:15 PM and I've haven't heard a peep from him, and he hasn't shown up yet.

I'm annoyed on two counts - firstly because we're making plans around his supposed appearance, and secondly because my mother is in hospital and I've not gone in to see her on these days because he was supposed to show up. Due to covid, visiting is restricted to one person per bay on the ward, so you have to make an appointment beforehand - you can't just show up and go see someone any more.

If he doesn't show tonight (I'm not holding my breath) I'll offer it to the next in line - luckily I have had quite a number of expressions of interest, so lets see how genuine they were...

In the meantime, thats another months tax and insurance paid for... The way I'm feeling right now I'm tempted to park it up in my mum's garage and use it as a spares car. Grrrrrr

Feel for you mate I’ve recently had the same thing with our R, guy in fairness whacked a fairly substantial deposit on it, he was a collector and wanted it. Changed dates of collection, which like you I had to change my family plans to work around him, he changed them several times and in the end I said you can have the deposit back

I’ve now realised that it was in fact the wrong decision to even think about selling it, so actually the guy has done me a favour in messing me around

He was only going to mothball it anyway which would have been a shame. These aren’t time pieces they are meant to be used and abused.

I had the same with a bike recently. Guy agreed to buy it, agrees a price and then came and started trying to have my pants down. We fell out.

Happened to me with a classic car I had.

Buyer... "Can you keep the car until August"?
Me "I requiire a large non returnable deposit"

A couple of months later (before August) he asked for his deposit back as something had cropped up and he needed the money for an emergency!!!

Sorry but if you read the email I sent you it states "Non returnable deposit"

Well, I'm amazed.

I had a call from a transport company saying they'd come to collect the car today - no contact from the buyer still lol. And the amazing thing is that the lorry actually turned up!

So thats it, its gone - into the trade as it turns out, so no doubt it'll re-appear somewhere shortly at £5k

Its a shame to see it go as I did an awful lot of work on it - and spent a lot of money on parts - so someone will be getting a bargain. Since buying the 850R it has acted as a standby car and has performed faultlessly when needed. If it wasn't worth so much I'd have kept it as a spares car as the engine, gearbox, brakes etc are all the same as on the 850R. The 4.4 ECU is a standard upgrade, so there were a lot of goods parts in that car. Lets just hope I don't need to do any major work on those items on the 850R now!

As an aside, it'd be nice to see it continue its story on the forum, so lets hope the next owner is an enthusiast.

Glad it came good in the end. 👍 I have bought and sold several cars on ebay and must say have had some strange experiences but they all came good eventually.

Thumbs up

Seems that eBay (and many sites) are full these days of rather strange folk sadly. Getting a genuine person, who pays and turns up and leaves without fuss is getting rarer and rarer.

At least you're all sorted and it didn't turn sour!
