Default Online tyre sales.

Okay I'll hold my hand up to a senior moment.

Yesterday I ordered some new tyres from a company ostensibly based in the UK(mobilemech-shop.co.uk) that said on the site, delivery in 1 - 4 days. An email today linked the company to mytyres/delticom (who I have successfully used in the past but thought I was sensibly avoiding because of the joy of Brexit) and said the tyres would 'probably' arrive by the 29th - so 9 days or so after order. Further investigation and a look at trustpilot showed that Delticom has subsidiaries in many EU countries (and the UK) and if the tyres you order aren't in stock in your own country will be delivered from another country - for the UK this obviously means your order is being shipped from the EU.
From trustpilot it looks like many people have fallen into the same pit, found their orders passed between numerous companies (all delticom linked) and waited, sometimes a long time, sometimes in vain for their tyres and often eventually claiming their money back from credit cards or paypal.
So the moral is, check out who you are buying from before you part with your money because it now appears that it is standard practice for some EU companies(Autodoc and Delticom come to mind but I'm sure there are many others)to create companies/websites that appear to be based in the UK but actually aren't.
From what I've read I'm now not holding my breath that the tyres will turn up on time but I'll update you on what happens.

Cheers

John

I'd recommend
www.blackcircles.com

Great choice & prices, fitting locally or fit yourself.

+1 for blackcircles and keep an eye out for discount times like euro crap parts do, I ordered mine a month earlier than planned to save £70 on the set

I was after a fairly specific tyre - Nokian seasonproof - to replace the Nokian weatherproof I've been running for the last couple of years so blackcircles & costco didn't come up on a search and camskill were about £20 more expensive per tyre.

I made the(late night!) mistake of looking at what I thought was a price comparison site (idealo.co.uk) and went with what I thought was the best price from a UK supplier. It turns out that all but 1 of the 9 'offers' - are from companies linked to delticom!

Oh well, live and learn - who knows, I may yet be pleasantly surprised and the tyres turn up on time!
