First time here - 245 GL - Window Seals
Hello. I inherited my fathers 1982 245 GL Estate 5 years ago, now with 52K on the clock, she’s is just 2 years younger than myself and bought new so very sentimental to me. Over the last 5 years she hasn't cost me much at all but now I need to quickly act with some preventative car to keep the rot at bay.
First problem was finding the wet carpet in boost and finding wholes in the seem. On further inspection I think the water has come in via the tailgate window seal, dripping down the inner skin, through the trim screws and into the seam. My dad had siliconed up the rear window seals but rust is now becoming apparent so I want to get the job done properly and replace all the window seals and get a local chap to sort the rust. The help I need is to find somewhere to source the seals. I have already been in contact with Brookfield but thought id try your help as well as one of the rear seals is not available. These are the seals I need, if anyone can give me any help. 1372174 LEFT HAND REAR SIDE WINDOW SEAL 1372175 RIGHT HAND REAR SIDE WINDOW SEAL -NO LONGER AVAILABLE 1211139 REAR TAILGATE GLASS RUBBER SEAL 1254562 FRONT SCREEN TRIM RUBBER SEAL I intend to get my local mechanic to replace the seals and fix the holes in the rear seem. However I am nervous that where he is not a volvo expert some of the trim may get damaged in removal. If anyone knows anyone local to portsmouth who deals in repair work to Volvos please let me know. Kind Regards Mike |

I may be wrong but I think the outer trim on the front screen is just asthetic and doesn't actually seal the window. I think the screen is sealed by a putty that is used to fit the screen.
Sorry I can't be of more help! |

Hi Mike, welcome to the forum and great to have another 240 around !
I know its probably a bit of a trek for you but I have used Just Volvo Centre in Totton for five years now. Owned by Graham who is ex Volvo - its a small independent operation but I have always found Graham very helpful and his charges reasonable. I often just chat about cars with him and he certainly has a lot of knowledge and experience which has been invaluable. He will generally lend a car or Totton train station is not that far away. Martin is also very good and helpful there. http://www.just-volvos.co.uk/ Cheers Steve

Hey Up.
Used to live in Pompey, Drayton to be exact until I upped sticks to France. Welcome to here, it's a good source of info & fun too! I always used http://www.peelcommonshowroom.co.uk/ on Newgate Lane Fareham. Bought three from him & had all that I've owned serviced by him. He can be 'quite hard work' to 'tie down' sometimes, but he (Phil) and his mec' (whose name escapes me) know the older models well. Another option is http://www.ihampshire.co.uk/profile/...o-Specialists/ Steve there did my current 240's clutch & timing belt (just before I left UK & Phil was fullt booked). He did a fine job & most of the local 'plod' with their own Volvos swear by him. Good luck.

Hi bob,
Thanks for this. What do you mean by the long piece of glass? Are the window seals new or off an old car. Have attached a picture of the seals I am trying to source Regards Mike |

Just remembered another place I used whilst in Pompey:
http://www.motortradeindex.co.uk/pag...ire&t=Emsworth Never had any work done by them, but they usually had a few breakers in, so were good for spare! Never know they might have used parts available if 'BOBS' are not the right ones

Thanks Paul. I do know the place in Peel Common, used to see loads of 240's outside. Perhaps once I can track down the parts I will pop over for a price.
