camshafts are always a compromise , you always make power/efficiency worse in some rpm ranges to get a gain in other rpm areas . when you get your gains you find the gearing isn't right and you use more fuel ... then you need to make fueling and ignition changes to get it to work properly . The manufacturer spends millions to get it right for you ....👍

I understand what you're saying but the M cam seems particularly uninspiring, volvo obviously used different camshafts over the years for a reason and I can't see the harm in swapping to a different factory cam

Volvo did work it out and get it right for the typical customer and then came the US market emissions leaving the F engines stuck with a really lame cam that is not much use for anything, not even making a good hammer

Do you want a standard road cam from a better model like a GLT or an after market sporty road cam ?

If you are still working on the engine.

Increase the CR ie take 1mm away from the cil-heads.
Any came from A - D will giver a nice performance with better torque in larger rpm range.

Having said.. K+H if you can get hold of them are a nice upgrade.

thanks I'll take a look, I think I'm going to look at aftermarket as I'm planning to get some headwork done shortly.
