Default Heater control valve

Doh!! Fool, foolish fool! Me that is! I was chuffed that I'd sourced a new part from a German supplier via eBay and having studied the description I was happy it was correct. Installed or rather attempted to install. It's an opposite mirror image ie for left hand drive. With a bit of jiggery Pockery I managed to secure it in place in bulkhead and attach cable and coolant hoses. Happy days until I started the car..... Leaked badly. So wrong part and leaks.

I found this a tricky awkward job and to then have to re install my old leaky item a waste of an afternoon. Hope the supplier is amenable to refund?!

Lessons learnt. And still need a replacement ASAP. Lakes hopefully for a used.

Done on my 740 almost 13 years ago, so not worth the hassle of cheaper parts, although I was pleasantly surprised when I found it was that valve and not the heater matrix lol

The lack of RHD heater valves are a bit of a problem. I had forgotten about the bit that fits onto the valve to operate the second cable going back to the heater.

I wonder if it might be possible to recondition the valves. The main problem with them is leaks from the bit where they join in the middle. On my original one the hose clamps holding the pipes on had deformed the pipe fitting a bit.

This is the sort of part Classic Volvo parts needs to be looking into getting re-made. Trouble is out of all of the 740/940's built only a small number were non air con and RHD. How many of those are still on the road ?

Out of interest I have just emailed Bosch Automotive Tradition to see if they can offer any suggestions.

Polar Parts the German supplier has emailed immediately confirming a full refund wig apologies for the failure. If that comes to fruition I am impressed. Now to source an alternative.

If it's any help it looks like the valves for 240's are the same hand as 940 ones but have a different inlet side of the valve. IPD have some good images of them on their site.

https://www.ipdusa.com/products/4935...e-latest-style

I can't see just how much different the valves are otherwise. The inlet side of the 940 one is longer and angled slightly whether you could get over this I don't know.

What exactly is the difference between the two is it just the angle of the inlet pipe ir is the whole thing different ?

Both items (left and right hand drive) have a plastic arm which secures the cable and dictates cable Routing. The left hand drive item is a mirror image of the right so the securing lugs didn't line up with the bulkhead and the cable securing arm as I'm referring to it as, is on the wrong side so fouling other parts of the bulkhead. As I say I did manage to fit it with some time and trouble but the dam thing leaked from the outer joint anyway. Lots of cursing took place yesterday. At least I'm well rehearsed for the ultimate installation of the next one I source!

As I posted on the previous thread, it's possible to fit a 240 one. The only difference is the length of the bulkhead side bit and the lack of lugs for securing it to the bulkhead, which mean you have to do a bit of adaption to get it to fit properly. Mine's been fine for the last 4 months or so with a 240 one

Ahh crap. I merrily bounded on to ebay and bought one off the back of that other thread without even thinking about LHD/RHD positioning.

Mine hasn't even turned up yet but I suppose it will be going straight back when it does!

Just had a message back from Bosch and they sold the last ones in 2013. Although I have asked if Classic parts have any through a dealers I might send them an email as well.

Using a 240 valve might be the best short term solution assuming the control cables can be fitted in the same way.

If there is any interest I might look into getting valves reconditioned. Splitting the two halves is fairly easy but re-sealing might depend on how the seal is made. Some sort of clamp ring will be needed as well.
