New S80 owner
Hi all
Im hoping to get a bit of advice i recently got a S80 D5 traveled a fair bit for it so made a weekend of it. On the 400 mile journey home the car broke down at 151 miles exactly stopped for a toilet break and the car refused to restart even drained a recovery guys NOCO boost pack the big one. lucky i had my laptop and vida with me to probe the ECM as i seen the fuel demand was 390000hPa but was only been supplied 19500hPa That was the Saturday fast forward a few days and arguments with the AA we got the car back on midnight the Monday haven't looked at it till today apart from putting a battery charger on it on tuesday evening as the battery was low. Got in from work wife says "go start the S80 see what happens" i was like "bet it does chuff all". Quite the opposite it actually started WTF. There was no running isssues leading up to it all i did was stop and turn it off no lack of power of stumbling or even a CEL for that fact. Anyone else shine a light on this i was thinking maybe a fuel filter been chocked or iffy in tank pump Regards O And Thanks in advance Edit: I should say its a 2009 D5

We’re there any fault codes stored in Vida?
Your HPA readings I guess are the rail pressure. 195bar isn’t really enough to start it as you found, ideally a min of around 250bar is needed in the rail before it will start. So you have to isolate where the fault may lie, low pressure or high pressure side. Easiest especially if the car is new to you would be a new fuel filter. If that’s no better than I would be looking up in Vida testing of the intank pump to make sure it is working correctly.

No fault codes were stored or shown for it which I'm surprised about.
As for running the low pressure pump what section does that come in as I couldn't find it anywhere. New fuel filter has been ordered as that was my thought aswell.

So got a new fuel filter fitted and probably one of the easiest jobs I've done for a while.
Was a bit of crud in the drain plug but not much that was seen on t filter but I know looks can be deceving. Car turned over a few times like I expected and ran idles and d held good fuel pressure. Then the ssot filter full message came up so it looks like I'll have to force a regen.... How is it I check the soot level? I know how to get it to regen I just want to know how long it takes and is it really save to do sat on a driveway with the temperatures involved. Regards and thanks in advance O

If you do a forced regen, you need to change the engine oil and oil filter afterwards. You risk the chance of diesel diluting into the oil, hence why you need to change it. You should also only do a forced regen if the differential pressure in the DPF doesn't exceed 100hPa at idle. If its higher than that, then don't do a regen. You need a new DPF in that instance. To see the soot level, go to VIDA, then "Information", "Product Specifications, "Specifications other", "Engine - Description of Parameters" and it should be listed there. However, I've read it can be listed under "Advanced" then "Regeneration". The car has to be outside to do a forced regen. A driveway would be fine, but it gets very hot, noisy and the fumes aren't good. Maybe let your neighbour's know beforehand before you blast them with smoke. I don't know how long it takes exactly, but probably 30 minutes or so. I wouldn't do it in a residential area personally, I'd go to an empty industrial car park that doesn't have houses near it. You're better off bringing the car for a drive at 50mph+ for 20-30 minutes. No need to force regen. It just needs a good drive at speed.

I have had a few issues with the Mann fuel filter I fitted a while ago - for the first time ever I have had a few refusals to start at initial attempt, however it has always started fine second time. I have a new genuine Volvo one (allegedly made by Mann) to fit now and I will see if that solves the issues...
