'joys' i dont think so, give me a hotel with running water and a flush toilet any day. However i did go caravaning a few times, but i was only about 4 yrs old at the time and didn't know no difference. I think i did enjoy it though.

I saw it - I have to admit that I was wondering just how they'd destroy it long before they did!

OK please tell me what is wrong with caravaning?

1.Its a cheap holiday for those of us who cant afford hotels etc.
2.With 2 kids and a dog its great for weekends(rallys etc).
3.It get the kids out into the countryside and fresh air.
4.You meet some great people on rallys etc.
5.You have the freedom to go where you wish and come back when you want without some landlady telling you when you must be back in your room.
Thats some of the resons we like caravaning or camping.Done them both.So whats wrong about that. Clarkson is nothing but a big headed asshole anyway.Bob.

At the moment we are saving up for a 4 berth caravan. We had a folding camper.Which cost £1,500 but I got made redundant so I had to sell it(needed the money). Before that we had a 2 berth caravan which cost us £800 with awning. We had that for 2 years untill Sean our oldest came along. We used to go out in it nearly every weekend on rallys etc plus holidays.I am hopeing to get a decent old 4 berth caravan for about £500 to £800 and do it up.That will be our weekends and holidays for quite a while.Bob

its up to you how you spend our holidays bob if you want to live in a tin hutch with a chemical bog fair enough, what i hate about the bloody things is the chaos they cause on our roads, there should be a strict curfew on the towing of the things, say only bewtween 2200 and 0500 to protect the rest of us who wish to travel around the country without being subjected to the torture of caravan induced jams/holdups nomally because some pleb is towing with a car totally unsuitable for the task or one of the things has turned turtle and blocked the road. no doubt about it caravan infestation is one of the worst blights of motoring in britain in the sumer months.

NO. I'm afraid that the only cause of hold ups is people who don't drive properly.

I am happy to say that when I was caravanning regularily, I was never at the FRONT of a traffic queue anywhere, not even in the Scottish Highlands.

I would suggest that the proper course of action on caravanning is much better instruction from the makers on HOW TO LOAD the thing, so it does not wander, snake or turn turtle, far more strick enforecement of the weight to weight ration for car and van, and the introduction of a power to trainweight ration as well, and for there to be compulsory instruction before towing.

BTW, What's this about a chemical toilet?? That went out in the 50's!

Now, for me, to cure the accident and hold up problems round here, I'd ban all agricultural vehicles from all dual carriageways and A roads, ban all HGV's from the outside lane of two lane dual carriageways (ditto caravans here), and put a Minimum speed limit of 65 mph on the outside lane of two lane motorways and dual carriageways.

Oh yes, and I'd reintroduce hanging for anyone travelling faster than me.

But "we" all tow with Volvos so we have to be mindful to stay under the 60 mph limit.

It is a minority who give caravaners a bad name the same as some people see Volvo drivers as doddering flat cap wearing oldies.

Have to agree with you about the agricultural vehicles.
But hanging for those travelling faster than you? Time to upgrade your motor?!!!
