V40 radio ad
“Made in Sweden, tuned for Britain”.
The above tag line is being used on a local radio ad for Volvo V40 R design. Is the V40 built in Sweden or in Ghent or somewhere else? If not sweden I think it is quite misleading. |

The current generation V40 is built in Ghent alongside it's larger sister Volvos
possibly also in Malaysia. Though deep down knows where its real homeland is. Mazda 3 is built in Japan, Taiwan and Columbia. Sure I also read about a site in Iran (not 100% on that though) As far as I know the Ford Focus is built in Saarlouis, Germany amongst other places. Certainly not Ghent As always stand to be corrected.

Volvo has done a lot of work on the chassis and a lot to distance the v40 from the Focus.

Also rework the D2 engine to meet their standards. All the other engines are designed and made in Sweden I believe. I think only the XC90 is assembled in Sweden from looking at what is assembled in Belgium, but I might be wrong on that.

I heard the radio ad just after Mrs McP picked up her V40. So next time I did take more notice of how the car performed on the less than great UK roads (and we were in Argyll & Bute, possibly the worst road network available). Hers is an R-Design with all the harsh-ride options ticked, and I have to say it was more than pleasant, certainly on a par with my cruising sofa V60 on its standard 17" wheels. I had an SE Lux V40 courtesy car and that was wonderfully sorted for the local potholes too, so I might question the Swedish part of the radio ad, but the chassis part I'd completely agree with.
