The main concern is the cost, so economic factors may affect the ultimate decision but my first choice is the XC60.
What trim have you ordered? I'm presuming you have seen one in the showroom.
I'm looking forward to my test drive on Tuesday, if I like it I will be looking for an extended test drive.
I'm really interested to see how the Skoda pans out. The VW I'm not so sure about, it's all about the 240bhp engine with this car, but you never know.

I've had all three German makes and I'm an Apple person but I don't consider these cars apples esque. I think it all rather depends on if you have the most expensive phone/car then it'll be great, some of the old entry level stuff may now disappoint, whichever manufacturer. Volvo def the most comfy to date but I may go back to whatever suits/attracts at the time. Volvo def up there on quality, although I did buy top spec. Guess what I have realised over the years is I don't buy entry level stuff anymore, and I dare say I will never buy another new car, loose way too much to keep doing that. Much rather have a high spec older car.

I haven't bought a brand new car since 2004, I'm now on my 5th nearly new car.
But being 70 next year I've decided I'm going to treat myself, it could well be my last car, who knows.
If I decide other than the Volvo XC60 I will probably go down the nearly new road again, with that option you get to test the car your intending to buy.
Like you I would not generally look at a lower spec, I like my toys to much.

You can nearly always spot an entry level German or JLR car by looking at the DRLs. Base models come with old-fashioned incandescent DRLs. To me they look quite sad. Even cheap and cheerful sub-10k Hyundai models come standard with LED DRLs. In 2017 you really should not have to pay extra for these, unless of course you want to make base models unattractive and seduce the buyer to either pay extra for the option, or climb the specification ladder.

Your exactly right, a 1.6d in a seven seat Nissan or even a five seat suv doesn't do it for me.

Bet you're not on the Skoda or VW forum having this discussion - that's because you "desire" the Volvo. It's a "nice" thing to have. I have an XC90, but it's a "nice" piece of design. It's Apple-esque to a degree now. It doesn't matter what Audi or BMW do, you'll still look at the Volvo and desire it.

You may go and drive the Skoda, and your head will tell you it's more sensible, but it's not *quite* there in terms of that "Apple" feeling that Volvo is now approaching. Volvo looks a nice clean pure Swedish design - something to behold and nurture.

For some, Samsung can do as much as they like with their S8 etc etc, but many will still want that warmer feeling that comes with Apple.

Saab (RIP) and Volvo just have that Swedish calmness & softness that sets them apart from the mainstream. Skoda & VW are just grey consumer brands pitched at a different level.

Hey, it's all in the clever marketing! We all get sucked in.....
Have looked on both VW and Skoda forums today, the Skoda owners seem general happy with their cars.

I have ordered an R Design Pro T5. The dealer said if I didn't like the demo when it comes, I could pull out. Went petrol because of all the pollution talk. I would only go for the Kodiaq if they produced a VRs version, it looks good, not tried one yet.

I must admit I've considered the petrol version for the same reasons as you.
Your obviously looking more at the sporty versions, whereas I'm looking for comfort with a turn of performance if I need it.
I hope the road test works out for you, do I take it that you haven't seen one in the metal yet?

No I have not seen one yet. Was hoping to go to Bluewater to see the one there but couldn't. I am looking for a sporty touch of comfort. My present R Design is great on long journeys as well as looking sportier than the base model so I figured the same might be true of the new one.

It seems I'm lucky to have a dealer near me that has just one in the showroom. I rang around dealer within 50 miles of me and they all said I'm sorry but there are none in the showroom yet, I quite enjoyed saying well I sat in one yesterday, all be it limited choice .
