mine was the same, after I replaced the arm I tried repeatedly to induce it to calibrate without success, convinced it was faulty I stuck some tape across the arm which would snap if the arm moved, after a week of use the arm hadn't moved, the car was performing perfectly by the way with the new arm, I checked it again after a month and the tape had snapped, so mine doesn't seem to calibrate at all .

This may sound daft, but can you order the old style swirl arm and just click into place? The new style with it's drilling does seem a bit daunting.
My now worn arm has obviously lasted 70,000 miles, wouldn't a new one last as long or don't the ball joints last? Last edited by ted striker; Apr 28th, 2014 at 18:07. |

Hi, I'm new on here. Recently bought a 2007 s80 185 geartronic. The car seems down on power compared to another of the same year that I also drove.
I noticed the arm had come off the swirl motor at the engine end and the arm is also broken. Could this lead to reduced performance? I have no messages or codes but I did notice when I plugged in my code reader that my throttle stays at 93.7% tps regardless of pedal position. I checked this on another car (mondeo) and it varies from 0 to 100% with pedal travel so code reader is good. Performance is not really bad, just not quite what it should be. I think economy is poor too but I'm unsure about this as I don't have anything to compare it too. Have I two separate problems or is it all down to this rubbish plastic arm??? Thanks in advance for any replies. |

For info my new arm has remained attached. So far worth the £4.
Mine is the one with a hole at each end, not sure if that's older or newer design. I don't know how long my arm was detached for, but I never had an error message. |

Thanks for that. Mine is also a hole at either end. I will try a new arm for now so before modifying anything.
Did you notice any change in power with arm on/off? |

Mine with arm off would not rev past 3000rpm on an incline in 5th.
Plus with arm on seems better cold. Mine also gave no errors/codes with arm off |

well, my "new " arm has worn and fallen off, thats lasted 6 months, no problem really , its only £4 and easy to replace, Ive just bought another two, what puzzles me is why the original lasted at least for my first three years of ownership, but the replacement only 6 months ?

Maybe the ball is slightly worn now so the new arm only lasted 6 mths compared to original.
