Default Electronic Ignition

Just about to extract the car from store (B20 and some!) and on my list of to-do jobs is a general service.

Mindful of some of the rubbish service parts available, I'm tempted to go for electronic ignition. I can't use 123 or similar as not allowed on the events I compete in. Basically, I'm left with the simple 'in distributor' items and I like the look of the Aldon Ignitor set up.

Has anyone on here had a go with one of these (or similar)? Would be keen to hear all about it.

Thanks in advance.

Only used the Lumenition stuff before on an MGB, it was fine but wasn't any more of an improvement over points (plus a spare set in the glovebox).
Got given an old Sparkrite unit which I stuck on the 144, it blew up within days, perhaps didn't like getting woken up with 5000 rpms!

Seeing as you still have to use the dizzy cap and rotor arm, which are both problematic service items is it worth it? Well yes, I'd say so, they do up the spark power, give a cleaner trigger signal to the coil and should be happier at high revs.

The clincher is the coil is called a Flamethrower!!

Buy Now!

(But don't blame me if you can't tell the difference.)

Totally agree, anything called a Flamethrower should be under my bonnet!

It seems to me that even if I can cut out just the condensor and points, it's two potential rubbish parts off the list and the ones that are currently working can live in my box of bits!

No expectations of a performance boost, that would be pushing my luck just too far.

Fit and forget, that's the beauty of electronics; straight out of the box, too.

Oh, I have a Flamethrower as well (on my 144 2.0i) - never worry about the sparkingtons now!
