What car? Year/engine?

You wouldn't get anything from it during gear changes, as the throttle plate stays open during changes on an auto, You'd only get a noise when you come off the throttle.

If you car is ME7 (Post 99 with an electronic throttle) they don't like them as they mess up the fuelling. They offer no performance increase though.

The fact your even asking the question would indicate your lack of knowledge...

The answer in that case .. is yes you *can* .. but you won't get anything.

With the car being an auto the throttle stays open through gear changes so it won't dump any of the air anywhere.

Stick with the standard recirc system imho. If you want noises fit a big cone filter, that'll let more of the recirc noise out (Which isn't a bad noise on it own!)

FTFY ^^

I think that pretty much sums up *EVERY* reaction to your obvious post. Even those replies from people who can't be bothered replying.

The reason OP asked is because he wants to know. If he had the knowledge of whether a dump valve would work on an automatic, do you really think he would have asked the question? Really?

I await your informed reply.

Pretty much the same answer, No.

The main difference is a Diesel doesn't have a traditional throttle body, so it'll never fire off. (As I understand it.)

The only differences between an atmospheric dump valve and a recirculating one are that one puts all the air that *would* be dumped into the engine bay back in to the intake pipe just before the turbo.

From ME7 onwards the air coming in to the engine was measured just after the air filter by the MAF, if you go dumping air thats been measured in out of the system then it'll make the engine run briefly rich - over time the engine gets its knickers in a twist and it can do all sorts of strange things like go into limp mode.

An atmospheric dump valve also makes you sound like a chav. There is no performance difference.
