Default MK2 V7O 2001 petrol won't start

I would be really grateful for some advice. Tried to start the engine this morning, it started fine but died immediately. The same thing happened a couple more times. The fuel was low (OBC said 25 miles left last time I used it). I added another half liter or so as that was all I had available. But it didn't help. The engine is turning over and the battery is strong. There is fuel at the fuel rail (checked at the Schrader valve).
I am thinking fuel pump relay or fuse but haven't checked yet. Any other candidates? What advice do people have?

Could be the immobiliser antenna ring around the ignition switch.

Having been where you are, and in agreement with previous post, I'd rather think there's insufficient fuel available - stick another 10 to 15 litres in the tank so the pump can actually "pull"/"push" sufficient fuel to the injectors to fire it up.

Thanks very much. Was convinced there was enough fuel left but just got hold of 5 litres from a kind neighbour - and low and behold after a few coughs it started and runs fine. So I feel a bit of an idiot.

Thanks
