1.6 Drive or 2.0 diesel both on 09 plate. Is one much better option than the other? Looking at 2.0L seems to be not that much cheaper to run than a 2.4L

The 2.0 diesel is a better engine than the 1.6 diesel irrespective of power and performance, but both need a good service history.

1.6 really doesn’t suit the car unless it’s just used around town, 2.0 is better but nowhere near as good as 2.4d or D5.
Yes 1.6 and 2.0D are better on fuel but so is a Focus (which has the same engines…). As has been said - service history is key, the 1.6 doesn’t tolerate neglect, the 2.0 is more tolerant but you would want some assurance it’s been worked on by competent people.

2.0 every time.
1.6 is a peugeot engine, Really is not suited for a large car like the v70. Along with peugeot reliability. Apologies to all the drivE owners if I offend... But the 1.6 engine is crap unless its meticulously maintained. Stick with a 2.0 5 pot or 2.4d 5 pot. (not the 185bhp version- Tax goes up) |

Why buy a Volvo if you're going to have one with a Ford engine?

Quote:
£3.50 Can't be many people who can afford to run a 2.4 litre, 5 pot, 1.7 tonne, premium-ish car who would then can't stretch to an extra £3.50, particularly as the extra 60NM of torque makes it so much punchier on the mid range and nearly 2 seconds quicker to 60. For £3.50. You'd do well as an estate agent
