Door mirror replacement - tips?
Some scroat has just this moment smashed my passenger side mirror off my parked car - it's unsalvageable as the shell has been bust clear of the clips on the body.
Can one replace the mirror unit without removing all the door panels, or do you have to to get at the electrical connections? If anyone has done this recently or at all I would welcome some way to lessen the cost - and if anyone has an electric passenger mirror for an 850, then I'd like to buy it. |

Hi Simon, sorry to hear about your car's mirror. Try this link:

RE: Door mirror replacement - tips?
Well I can now report that you DO have to take all the trim off the door to replace the mirror, since the connector is halfway down the front edge.
When you're doing this, don't forget to label the speaker terminals red and white or you'll get the front speaker out of phase... New mirror arriving tomorrow from Lea Valley - they had a Flame Red shell on theirs, so no respraying I hope. I'll report on refitting if any problems. |

RE: Door mirror replacement - tips?
Hi Simon,
SOrry to hear about your mirror. How are you with removing the door trim? The mirror replacement is quite easy but you need to get the door trim off to unclip the wiring harness. To remove the door trim (bear with me, I'm going from memory): Pull the black door handle up to remove. Remove speaker grille. Undo screws retaining the speaker and withdraw speaker. You'll need to disconnect the speaker wiring. Unclip the door card insert (you may need to buy new clips as they break easy) and remove. Unscrew screws behind the insert. Unscrew the screws along the bottom of the door trim. Remove door trim carefully, starting from the bottom by gently pulling out and then lifting the trim upwards. Unclip the black plastic panel on the inside alongside the external mirror housing. Undo the wiring loom connecting the mirror to the internal witing. Unscrew the three screws securing the wing mirror to the body (keep hold of the mirror as you undo the last screw or it'll fall and may damage the paintwork of your car). Withdraw the mirror. In the words of good old Mr Haynes, refitting is a reversal of removal. If you buy a mirror from eBay and the colour is different to the Red mirror on your car then you can simply unclip the red plastic backing from your existing mirror and fit to the new mirror in place of the odd coloured backing. You'll see what I mean when you remove your mirror. Of course, this is assuming the backing of your existing mirror is still OK to use. Hope this helps. Any questions please let me know. Regards Andy |

Mirror replaced - aerial broke!
Well I got the new mirror on to the car (it came from Braydon, btw, not Lea Valley as I incorrectly said earlier), and then tried to free off the aerial that wasn't extending properly.
It snapped. So now it's pay for and fit a new mast (good instructions from Volvospeed repair page). I'm cursed. |

RE: Mirror replaced - aerial broke!
You're blessed that you got the right part from Braydon - those shysters totally ripped me off with a duff headlamp and then claiming to send a replacement f.o.c. which never arrived &c &c. I'd never deal with them again, ever. Only good thing to come out of that was that a kind fellow VOC member in Fort William saw my miserable post and happened to have a spare which his brother who lives 20 miles from me could bring back after a recent visit - which all happened, thanks Sargent bros., you're gentlemen & scholars.

Hoorah
I followed mraldonnelly's advice and successfully fitted a new door mirror, including swapping old back for new, without breaking anything - thanks.
