ABS ring
Finally got round to fitting ABS ring to V70 , what a day sheared one bolt that holds wheel hub to strut not impressed ended up grinding drop link off to put new one one. Yes i sprayed everything with penetrating oil first lol, noticed driveshaft bolt was hanging off when i took wheel off, good news was that ring had split so just pulled off heated new ring knocked on reassembled and no ABS light on happy days. Only had car around 6 months loving it.

Had a busy Saturday. Took the front bumper off to remove and clean sticky bonnet catch (was sticking open).
Also replaced steering stops, put three washers behind each bolt to hope to reduce rub. After asking my local Volvo dealer how much the "green" stops (31200948) would be (£23 each) I decided I could live with the black ones from AutoDoc (£2.38 each). Then uninstalled the old Volvo rear window shades in anticipation of tinting the windows in few weeks time. These will be going up on eBay this evening. Volvo part 30721719. (9499212 + 9499213) https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/304522718377 And then finally gave the engine bay a little wipe down. |

XC70 window regulator repair
I dismantled the passenger side front door to investigate the loud ‘clank’ that Mrs D had complained about when closing the window of her XC70. As expected one of the plastic guide blocks had disintegrated. I’d assumed that this was going to be the problem before taking it apart and had bought replacements at £3.85, so it was a speedy fix. I spent more time ‘resetting’ all the plastic trim rivets to re-fix the door card.

Not entirely but pretty close. Much less noise when moving on full lock. Tight carparks are still going to be a challenge. |

Panicked myself today when looking to see if any particles were visible at the bottom of the 5l of used ATF in a plastic container from doing a couple of drain and fills a few weeks ago. Bottom of the container had reddish foamy globules in it so I just thought 'Oh No - the rad is leaking!' - Only to realise a few minutes later that I'd put the used ATF in a WATER bottle which wasn't fully dry!
Did raise the question though, since everything is more or less sealed up as far as the gearbox is concerned - is there a ready way to test your ATF for water contamination or is a trashed 'box the first warning? |

Forgot to post when I got my wheels refurbished
Before: After: And obligatory picture of both cars before I sold the non-R: Refurb done by www.perfectrims.co.uk - also they straightened a buckled one that was called out on the MOT. |
