Default V90 Stop/Start

I'm getting a message on the display saying "Start/Stop Support Battery Service Required". When the car has been running the voltage is 13,0 but overnight it drops to 10.8 so I'm guessing the battery has failed.

The car always starts easily.

My local stealer has quoted over £500 to replace both batteries and re-calibrate the system. Watching videos on YouTube people just replace the secondary battery with no mention of re-calibration.

Is the dealer trying to rip me off or following an un-necessary Volvo procedure?

Free things to try at home.

Charge the battery by the posts under the bonnet.
Remove the negative terminal from the small battery for 10 minutes and reconnect.
Remove the negative terminal from the main battery for ten minutes and reconnect.

If you have something like this https://www.amazon.co.uk/KINGBOLEN-2...560586936&th=1 test each battery.

If it fails to hold charge after charging up, replace stop start battery with one of these. https://www.tayna.co.uk/motorcycle-b...uasa/ytx12-bs/

Will any suitable motorcycle battery do or does it have to be that brand?

Any AGM battery of same spec/size and fitting lugs.

I've got a battery tester. Is the disconnect\reconnect procedure to do the recalibration? Thanks for your help.

Yes, the old trick of 'turn it off and turn it back on' is the IT support instruction that seems to work a good number of times.

If you have a battery tester like the one I showed you then leave the car overnight and test both batteries in the morning before you start the car and see what it tells you.

The battery shown to you above is probably the one you need but the 'free' tests could save you money.

TBH with winter coming up, it's probably worth just replacing it anyway at 5 years old.

Main Stealer batteries come gold coated with diamond encrusted carrying handles you know... only justification I can ever find anyway.

I've replaced the battery. It's showing 13.6 volts. I've tried discoonecting the negative leads as mentioned above. I've given it a 20 mile run. The message still comes up. What should I do next
