IEM Software upgrade required
Got the car back - and the service note just said
"Found fault with IEM which has an internal software issue. New software not released yet. awaiting for information from Volvo" And advice that I should chase them (both Volvo and dealer) about once every month

sitrep: IEM s/w update incoming
OK, I got a bit of a runaround between dealers and escalated to Volvo UK Executive Office, who were very helpful - the upshot is that the software update they identified is now available, and the car's going in Friday am to have it applied. Fingers crossed I'll be hybrid again soon

What I cant get my head around with these things is that these vehicles come off a production line, and aside from different option configurations are identical.
Yet they get almost unique software problems. I should probably post on it in case anyone else has the issue, but I had a software bug that caused the car to intermittently stop start (auto brake) in reverse on hybrid power ie kangaroo hop. Eventually an obscure technical bulletin was found from the states and the car software upgraded - fixed. They had already applied all of the standard software upgrades

OK, update for anyone interested
19 November '21 I took the car into the local dealership for the software update to be installed. So as to hurry them up, I said I would wait while they did it... 3 hours later, they said it was still in progress; they had remote techs from Sweden logged into the car and were trying various fixes with some experimental software which had not yet been released. Long story short - it didn't work. I picked the car up later and was advised they'd book it in the week before Christmas to replace the IEM module. mid December IEM module was going to be delayed and not arrive until mid-Jan. Next time they could give me a courtesy car for several days, was late Jan. They managed to hurry up the IEM module and had it fitted in late December and I got the car back on Christmas Eve. Hybrid mode now working again. Foot-operated tailgate opening no longer works. Going back in early Feb to have that looked at.

Im Dublin you can opt for Spirit or KOPING. No other options Im aware of in terms of official dealers. Hopefully it is a software fix so it wont cost you too much best of luck!
