Does your car have a dashboard lights dimmer switch?
Mine has one in the form of a slider switch. A few years ago my dash lights failed. I was unable to locate the fault at the time and had to fit a jumper wire across two of the contacts on the slider switch to get the dash lights back on but they were only at their brightest setting. Some time later I had the dashboard out to repair a speedometer fault. Whilst I had it out I cleaned all the PCB contacts and multiplugs. Miraculously the dimmer switch started working again as it should.
I may be able to find my thread.

Hi

As Ian21401 has suggested, a good quick check, as my dimmer slider on my 940 has a habit of somehow dropping right down so I have no dash lights. Don't know if it's a iffy slider switch, or I may somehow knock it perhas when turning the keys.

Cheers
Steve
