Default Towbar wiring TRM activation by VIDA/VDASH

Hi, I have fitted a towbar to my 2012 V40 with genuine Volvo electrics kit including TRM. I was expecting that I would get basic functions but not fog lights, reversing sensors or stability but the socket is dead. I will now have to get the TRM activated by a Volvo dealer but was wondering whether I would be better investing in a DICE VIDA/VDASH to activate it, the cost is similar, and then it would be useful for other work on the car. Can anyone please confirm that I do need to get it coded and whether the DICE + VIDA/VDASH will do this. Thanks
