Default V90 D5 Cross Country - Battery Charging

My 2017 V90 has a depleted battery. It went in to my local dealer as the stop/start wasn't working and the Sensus system turns off within 2 mins of parking up. The dealer updated the software but said the battery was depleted and needed to be trickle charged overnight. I can do this myself at home but I'm confused as to how to do it. It seems that the main starter battery is in the boot and the support battery, for the stop/start system is in the engine compartment. My dealer has told me, twice, that its the battery in the boot which needs to be charged. The manual for the car suggest this is not the case and that the battery charging points are in the engine compartment (despite the battery being in the boot?!) Can someone who knows about these things please let me know if I should be using the recharging points in the engine compartment.

You can charge the main battery in the boot by connecting directly to the battery BUT THIS BYPASSES BATTERY MONITORING, OR you can charge it using the jump start terminals in the engine bay WHICH IS THE BETTER WAY

It's the same thing.

The jump start terminals are connected with big fat cables to the battery in the boot.

If I am not mistaken, the owners manual says not to charge at the terminals, only from the charging point under the hood.
Charging at the terminals will bypass the battery monitoring device.
As mentioned above, these points will charge the battery in the boot (and I think also the support battery under the hood)
I also think that the support battery under hood is not for stop/start but for support of the computer systrems of the car.

Swiss XC90 Surely that’s wrong you must not charge directly to the battery in the boot, only to the charging points under the bonnet, if you charge directly you can damage the battery. Think that’s in the manual.

As others have said "Do Not" connect a battery charger directly to the battery, you must use the charging points in engine bay only.

That doesn’t make me wrong. That reference is for the start stop battery, not the main battery.

The page of the manual shown above does not make my comments wrong. I referred to the battery in the boot, not the start stop battery.

There is only one way for charging and that is what's in the manual. Both batteries are charged.
From the owners manual:
"
The starter battery (big one in the boot) is used to start up the electrical system and
drive the starter motor as well as other electrical equipment in the car.
"

"
Cars with the Start/Stop function are equipped with two 12 V batteries -
one extra powerful starter battery for starting and one support battery
that helps during the Start/Stop function's starting sequence.
"

This means that the support battery "helps" the stop/start system,
but doesn't power the starter motor. The starter battery in the boot does that.

The main battery is the starter battery.

If you are doing a true trickle charge i.e. for maintenance of a battery in a seldom used vehicle, it’s safe to connect direct to the battery.

Having just charged the almost dead battery in my VW Golf using one of these-
https://www.ctek.com/products/vehicle/mxs-5-0
I can confirm the safest way to ensure the battery is not damaged is to connect to the ‘jump start’ terminals under the bonnet (on the Golf it’s red direct to + on battery and black to a point on the chassis or engine/gearbox assembly as far from the battery + terminal as possible).
