Logbook change, June, 22 .

Could be inherited.

It says Grandpa’s motor, it does not say MY Grandpa’s.

The plot,like gravy, thickens!🤔

... as you say Andrew, the plot thickens!

If this was indeed the seller's Grandpa's motor car I should think he will be able to offer a good explanation for the missing einspritzen. If he can't (or won't) then it is going to be very difficult to sell this motor car into the 'knowledgeable Volvo enthusiast' market because every potential buyer will ask the same question.

There is something a bit fishy going on here.

Another lovely day in paradise.

Alan

We’ll await your reply from the seller.🧐

Torslanda £1.8k Peterborough

Seller finally posted pictures larger than postage stamp...
"Bodywork is ok with a few blemishes but good for a 31 year old car."

Front offside impact has dented wing, drivers door and rear wing, with consequent rusting (breached paint). Nearside passenger door dented too.

Doesn't look like a well loved and cared for car with two independent unrepaired accidents.

I do hope he/she replies Andrew. I'll publish the answer of course.

I beginning to wonder whether:
c. It started life as a GLE but someone has bunged the injector ports and fitted a manifold and CDSU carburettor. Maybe the CI system failed and was too expensive to fix?
...is the most likely answer. This motor car had a 7 year sleep from 2014 to 2021, perhaps the einspritzen failed to wake up in 2021 and the cheapest or easiest solution was to procure an intake manifold and CDSU carburettor from a B21a/B23a motor. In spite of what people tell me, the CI system cannot be as simple or reliable as a carburettor, particularly after 7 years sitting under an apple tree in Grandpa's garden.

If that is the case I may not mind because I have a complete and functioning B230e motor sitting in front of my house (but of course I wouldn't tell the seller that). Other potential buyers might either have to run the motor with the Pierburg carburettor (not very satisfactory if on wanted the GLE's performance), invest about a grand in a Weber conversion or replicate the CI system (that might be much more expensive than a grand).

... watch this space.

The lack of originality is a good bargaining chip but as you said, not a deal breaker.

If the other injection paraphernalia is still present, then no need for a total engine swap.

Interesting.🙂

Wow! That Amazon shaped pile of rust made £4,156 at auction! That is rather more than I paid for GAM, and I drove that motor car home (all be it without back brakes - as I found later).

I still find it hard to believe that someone has paid so much for so little.

It will only be sinister if the seller doesn't reply - then it will be 'steer away!' as we used to say in the Airborne.

Over a year ago this chap sold a V70 R for £1500. I bet that was, as my Dad wouldn have said, a “Bonny specimen “.

Thank you Andrew, but you have lost me there: is selling a V70 R (some Volvo model I'm guessing?) for £1,500 a good thing or a bad thing?
