Smile Tarrahh v70.....well hellooo 940 !!

Yerrrs I've gone and done it again !!! Just couldn't live with the v70 yes its fast powerful and looks awesome BUT..... It just wasn't me, I've tried before with an 850 but I simply can't get away with modern Volvo's. So after allot of searching I found an immaculate early 940 GL very basic but then there is less to go wrong She has been affectionately named Chug lol because whilst she will never win any races (B200 non turbo) I'm sure she will happily Chug the length & breadth of the country without missing a beat

Pics to follow......

Well done another returney to the fold!Just what is it like to drive a front wheel drive car? Lol.
I haven't had the benefit of driving any newer cars but the few I've travelled in are just box's and tend to be treated as such, just a means of getting there and back.

Looking forward to seeing some pictures too.
Regards Brian.

I quite understand...

I have tried it a few times (too many) too..

The minute you go back to a car where the Rear wheels..erm..drive..and the front steer...it's just so much nicer..IMHO...

Those V70R shure are pretty though..no doubt about that...and the C70..S60....darned nice styling...

Yup they sure look fantastic real head turners but there is just something about the older RWD Volvo's they just have so much character and they feel sooo nice to drive even if by comparison they are very slow ! Mind you as I said to my friend, at the end of the day as long as its perfectly capable of chugging along at 70 then thats fine by me it is after all the speed limit

Sounds much like what I have gone through the past few months ..... just something about these old rwd Volvos that keeps me coming back to owning one .
I also have today now got a rather mint 740 saloon ..... why dont you see many of these saloons anymore , on the 140 mile journey back home I didnt see one !

Your right though .... the B200 non turbo wont win any races , but WILL run forever im sure with regular oil changes etc .......

Well done stiggy, nice to see someone with a true Volvo, there really is something about the 740 saloons that I like, but for me it needs to be an estate.

Would love a good early 740 turbo saloon as a weekend car.

Saw a very gc metallic light blue one at Newhaven Sainsbury`s yesterday.
Also driving from Lewes to Eastbourne unexpectedly joined a convoy of older Volvos.
Black Jreg 960, metallic green Rreg V70 and mine in the middle - cruising!

Some years ago I had to sell my 740 due to house move etc and have regretted it ever since. Picked up at rover 400, spouse did not feel relaxed. Picked up a bog standard 940 auto saloon - spouse fell alseep!!

Had problems and whislt attempting to fix picked up an 850. Just felt like any ordinary car - not Volvo like at all. Fixed 940 and sold 850.

The real Volvos are great cars and I would not say 'chugging' up the motorway but 'coasting' a great relaxed, laid back feeling that no other car can produce.

Yeah I know what you mean, when I got in it to drive it home from Sunderland it was like putting on a favourite pair of slippers !! Simply effortless almost regal !!!
