Default saying hello

Hi guys, new to the forum so thought id drop in a say hello. I've just bought my first ever Volvo, a 2004 wine red XC90 2.4 diesel Automatic.

I've had it 2 days now and so far I LOVE IT ! so much room, so comfortable to drive and the kids are loving the extra space.

90mile round trip to get it. Was a little disappointed when we got there as it had been used on a farm and was STINKING. Rear brakes were shot, 3rd row seatbelts chewed through by dogs and fuel tank on rock bottom. but otherwise in good nick and runs like a dream.

Got it home, spent the last 2 days cleaning it out and just finished replacing the rear brakes. Not to bad a job, both sides done inside an hour
All that's left is to replace the rear seat belts, get hold of a handheld carpet cleaner from somewhere to get the smell out and finish with a damn good polish. cant wait to have it finished.

had a small issue this afternoon where she jumped into limp mode but I'm lead to believe that could be because the fuel was run so low its pulled up crap from the tank. doesn't look the fuel filter has been changed in god knows how long so that's next on the list.

all in all I'm thrilled with the car and cant wait to put some miles on her.

Anyway that's me for now. cant wait to get involved here and looking forward to speaking to every one. happy motoring for now

Hi and welcome! I'm new to Volvo myself, and really enjoying it so far.
What is it with farmers vehicles - they certainly give them a hard time! Sounds like you're not afraid of a bit of DIY. Lots of helpful and knowledgeable folks on here - good luck.

^^^^^ That..

Do whatever it takes now to get it A1, you will get many years of use.

Tip - get a decent Volvo code reader, preferably VIDA, it will tell you why it went into limp mode. Usually a very low cost sensor/hose/leak problem.

Check the rear subframe, on the earlier models corrosion is a problem, power wash it off a blather it with waxoyl or similar.

Welcome and good luck!!

checked on that one this afternoon after spending 4 hours with the carpet cleaner in the back . underside looks to have been undersealed at some point previously. looks really clean but will blast everything off and re seal it in the next few weeks anyway just so i know its been done.
regarding your mention of a code reader, any suggestion or particular one as funny enough i put my reader on it afterwards and kept giving me a linking error. im assuming this is because my reader doesnt do volvo.

I'd been meaning to look into an OBD scanner for Android smartphone, and posted on here about it. A helpful member (stevebg) pointed me at 'Car Scanner'. I dug out a Carista dongle I'd forgotten about, downloaded the app - and wow! Connected right away, and seems well-featured and responsive. I haven't had time to do more than ensure connectivity and do a quick scan, but it was enough to flag up a couple of glow plug faults. I'll be paying for the full version, but the free one is well worth checking out.

I am fairly new to the forum as well with only few posts but have been reading it for ages. Amazing source of information and amazing people.

You want be disappointed especially if you don't mind getting your hands dirty a bit and do some things on your own . Enjoy your XC90.

seems to be a lot of very knowledgeable people here which i plan to make use of haha, I only hope I can contribute as much

thankyou, definitely don't mind getting my hands dirty, have always done my own repairs and servicing on all my cars but self taught and certainly do not consider myself a pro by any means lol.
