Default Identify Component

1997 V70 T5 Automatic. Estate.
Can somebody please tell me what the component attached to the underside of the Battery Tray is?
Numbers stamped on casing are 000 572 and 1 390903, made in Germany. Mr Google is not telling me anything I understand.

Item has electrical connection, 3 wire.
And 2 small gauge hose connections similar to vacuum hose, only one of which has a hose connected to it, and I can`t trace where it connects too.

Ideas for a worthwhile Code Reader?
Any good Volvo Mechanics known of around the Newquay Cornwall area?

Thanks in advance for any help gratefully received.

I very much stand to be corrected, but I think that this is an electrically controlled valve which is part of the fuel vapour purge system - fuel vapour from the tank is led back to the engine bay and is fed into the inlet manifold, and this valve controls when this is allowed to happen - I think! You'll find some one-way passive valves in that area too, I think there are two of them. I know I replaced one on mine, as it was blowing in both directions.

Code readers - I've got an Autel MS509 which is a great bit of kit and works on pretty much any OBDII compliant car, but they're a bit old hat now, the current way to go as I understand it is to get an app for your phone, and the correct cable to connect, and away you go - much cheaper too I believe. There are others who know a lot more about this solution that I do, and there are quite a few threads on it too, if you search long enough, as this is a fairly commonly asked question.

Hi,

That's your cruise control vacuum booster pump.

Best regards,

Rich.

Definitely cruise control vac pump. When I rebuilt the front end of my 1997 R after a mild front end shunt, it was the one thing that had me totally foxed on what it was and where it went. Took me a while to find out...
