...although the answer is maybe the same for any SPA car.
I have here a 86mm 16 flute oil canister tool that I used to use on my 5 cylinder V70 D3. Will it work on my new V90 D4? I'm getting conflicting information from the internet. A link to the appropriate tool would be appreciated. Also, the appropriate sump washer.

I can confirm the 86mm 16flute tool works with D4 oil filter housings.
Btw there are a lot of crap one so you need to find a tool made from solid alu/steel instead of a cheap stamped metal. I have the Hazet 2169-6. (I bought it many years ago so i cannot guarantee if it remained the same design.) The sump washer is the same for the old 5cyl and for newer VEA (Dx, Tx, Bx) engines. Hope it helps ![]() Last edited by mboros; Jun 15th, 2022 at 21:48. |

Thanks guys that saves me some time preparing for servicing this car for the first time.
My local Volvo dealers are a long way away, which is part of the reason I service myself. The time spent servicing approximately equals the time to get the car to and from them!

I'm going to be needing one of these in about 11 months time, I did do some looking before buying the car and iirc I found info that said the one for the VEA engines isn't the same as the one for the older 5 Cyl engines, it does still fit but doesn't clamp quite right, like using an imperial spanner to undo 10mm nut,
? There's also a great how 2 video online https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZXL_aW_k-jU Listen to him @ 3.50. |
