My stepson had his keyless entry Discovery 4 HSE Lux stolen from his driveway last month, everyone was home and they never heard a thing, a neighbors cctv shows it being driven away around 10:30pm.
It cost over £60,000 and was still like a brand new car although 5 years old (just) it only had 15k miles on the clock, it was only used when they went away in the caravan, the insurance has offered £28,500. A massive loss.

In my books the keyless entry is a superfluous gimick. My wife has got keyless and I still have a "normal" key for my car which I prefer. The normal key has a set position in the car, you can start the car even the key battery is fading away and it does not get lost amongst junk in your pockets and bags.
It would be safer if all manufacturers started to use signal time as a means to determine how close the masterkey is.
But that start button looks so sportscar-esque.

My former Alfa 159 had the best of both worlds...no keyless, physical slot on the dash to put the key into, and a start button!

A big problem, many Discovery 4 owners resulted to the fitting of Disklok’s, takes less than a minute to scan for the fob’s, gain entry and gone.

If possible, I would prefer to disable keyless entry instead of having
to use a mechanical device to keep my car from being stolen.

Just pop the bonnet and take the distributor cap with you when you leave your car for the night?

not possible with a diesel it is better to take the fuel pump fuse away from the car most thieves aren't bright enough to work out why it wont start.

Make cars too secure then carjackers attack the driver, make them too easy to nick then they just vanish over night. You can't win.

I lived in Nottm in the mid 90s and had a Vauxhall Belmont 1.6 (Imagine an Astra but a lot uglier). I used to take the rotor arm out of the distributor every night. It was the only way of being reasonably sure that the car would still be there in the morning......
