Hello, I'm not a turbo Volvo owner. If I were in your shoes I'd first search, "Lack of power", "No power" and "Low boost" on this, and other, Volvo boards. It would help you get a handle on your new vocabulary. You win when people post the solution to a problem. Knowing what I know, I'd give a visual inspection of my intake system. The large hoses of these systems soften and crack over time and you're due with a 2001. Be certain their connections are made. The absence of a check engine light could be pointing to a neglected, clogged fuel or air filter. It does happen. I believe the fuel pressure regulator can malfunction without a check engine light as well but I don't know how that problem manifests itself whilst driving. How long have you owned this car? How many miles are on this car? Did you not test drive it aggressively? Do you have any record of the maintenance history of this car? Was it at all serviced before sale? This car might just have nearly completely closed (with dirt) or grossly over gapped (with neglect) spark plugs. Give them a look. If your plugs are the correct ones and correctly gapped, the absence of misfiring and a check engine light would suggest all is well with your ignition system. If there's an over-boost protection valve (aka waste gate or hooter valve) see that it isn't stuck open and that its vacuum or electrical connections are made and in good condition. Make sure the turbo-charger is spinning freely.
The more you inspect yourself, the more you can eliminate as a problem. Kira |
