Hi, Is the noise still present when you are braking and/or turning a sharp corner.

It doesn't seem seem to it when I first drive off but comes on after a short drive My Wife's got very good hearing and says she cant hear anything I did hear a noise a few days when I was on full right lock it sounded like the wheel had made contact with the Mudflap the nose doesn't get worse with cornering or braking, I was was thinking of getting the car in a right hand lock and seeing if I can see anything. I'm visiting a relative who lives in the countryside not many garages and so Would like to get it home if possible.

Not sure I'd call it a booming noise but I did get a noise from my wheels when I had a bend in a rim, I didn't figure it out for a while as the bent rim was on the inside edge of a wheel and it wasn't that much out of round.

I found a MOT center/garage not far away so will get them to have a look in the morning, easier then laying in the road trying to find out if there's anything wrong

Get the garage to check out the handbrake shoes - that's exactly the noise our S70 made before one of the shoes delaminated and seized up the whole hub. We were lucky, it happened on our drive and my Mrs (who was driving) immediately realised something was wrong. If it happens at speed however......

Check the tread blocks carefully on each tyre. Look if they have worn unevenly (i.e. are some blocks higher than the others). Also, check if the tread patterns are distorted in any way. Its a notorious problem on P80 and P1 platform cars. These issues can cause the "bom bom" noise you describe. Some tyres seem to be very susceptible to this. It's more common on the rear wheels and can be indicative of a need for new rear dampers (though you'll need to change the affected tyres too as its irreparable.)
I've had this problem several times of all my P80 / P1 cars.

Regards
John

As above - my money would be on a tyre fault. If you can isolate the noise to one corner, try swapping in the spare wheel and see if the noise goes.

Have you hit any big pot holes lately? Might have damaged a belt in the tyre. Also check for bulges on the inside of the tyre and loose wheel well liners rubbing on the tyre.
