Default Engine system service required

Driving home from work this evening & "ENGINE SYSTEM SERVICE REQUIRED" flashed up on the driver information display.

Alarmingly this is not in the owner’s manual, has anybody else had this warning flash up & if so what was the outcome.

I think to be on the safe side I will be calling the local stealership tomorrow to get it booked in, thank god it's under warranty.

Thanks in advance if anybody can shed some light on this.

Thanks for this, yup it's a D5 engine so will contact the local Volvo stealer as the car is not 18 mnths old yet so the warranty can take care of this, just hops it's something simple.

Scooby,

Thats a thought as the car was in just 2 weeks ago and less than 200 miles since it went for a recal ref the DPF which included a software update & a slight reduction in the engine oil level.

I think something may be a miss with the recal.

Scooby

The car went in yesterday & yes guess what engine oil level too high, but it wasn't the same software glitch you had. not much faith in this DPF Recall.

Sorry I could not tell you what the fault number was, just a rough desciption of the fault.

My car is fitted with the D5 engine and has recently had a recal / upgrade of the Diesel Partcle Filter software as during the DPF regeneration it was dumping fuel in to the sump and the oil had risen above the maximum level , the new fault arose shortly after this work was carried out, the actual fault refferd to the engine sump oil level being too high when in fact the oil level was fine so in the end the fault turned out to be software.

Took my V50 in for the free safety inspection last week. Quite good (and came back nice and clean). Trouble is they also did the D5 oil recall work. Guess what? I now have "Engine system service required" showing whenever I start the car!

I have been unable to get the car back to the dealer yet, but on the phone he said it probably wasn't related to the recall. However, another Volvo dealer told me that he knew of two cars where this had happened, because the software had become "confused" by the upgrade!

I am taking the car in to my local garage for new front pads on Monday; I may just ask them to drain another half litre of oil and clear the fault message (if they can). Oil is well up to the max mark on the dipstick when cold.
