Hi.
Yes, your right about the"find a job" bit , I've had that experience a couple of years ago with a 745.
Correct , was Baytrack now Stratstone, but I was expecting them to be more expensive.
So its to Jason in Bridgend in a couple of weeks time when I will be able to have the time to go there.

Default Back to DIY servicing

On reflection, I think I'll have a go at the next service myself. Having managed to keep a Hillman Imp on the road during my youth, I think that the V70 shouldn't be too difficult. The £200+vat labour for an oil change and new spark plugs means that I can invest in a a set of ramps and still be quids in.

Is there anything I should watch out for (it is a base 2.4 140 bhp 1999 V70, no ETM, thank heavens) or is it just a case of finding the sump plug and filter and getting on with it?

Hi, The only thing to be aware of in an oil change is the filter. I have a 2.4, 140 W(2000) V70 and use the paper type filter. This means you have to get the old one off, empty it, clean it out and insert the replacement filter and put back. You have the square root of nothing to grab the filter housing to unscrew the thing. Use vasaline, not on the filter, on your knuckles after you have got the thing off !!!!
I recently have had replaced on my car both front shocks, front brake pads. Including labour, £300.

Default rear brake discs

save yourself some money, i did. i do what i can myself. the rear discs at a trade outlet are only £15 each and pads approx £8. not too difficult to change either. there is some play on the caliper brake pipe and i suspended it with a bungie. while your at it, get new handbrake shoes, i paid £29 for both sides. if you cant find a local supplier, try mine and they may post onto you. 01665 602 852 tell them les sent you.

As for brakes, I got Brembo rear discs @ £22 each, Textar Rear Pads @ £15 and got my local fitter who i use for this sort of fitting work, his labour was £30 for the fitting of the parts, bleed the entire system and fill with new 5.1 fluid.

Front discs would be more at about £30-50 each roughly and pads roughly £25-35.

Better than the mumbo jumbo you get fitted at kwik fit etc. Volvo's own stuff is really good, I like it but just can't justify the extra money.

I've got the Brembo / Textar setup front and rear and am quite happy with it, cost about £200 for 4 discs, 2 sets of pads, and handbrake shoes from GSF.
