Default 5 x 108 PCD hubs on 1966 Amazon

Hello again,

This is really directed at classicswede (where are you in North Wales, I have familiy in Conwy??) or any other specialist familiar with Amazons.

Having liked the look of the cloverleaf alloys currently on ebay (off a '70 P1800 I believe), I wondered if anyone knew how easy it would be to:

a: swap the 5 x 114.5 hubs over for 5 x 108 items;
b: have the existing hubs remachined and refitted, so that the alloys would fit. What tyres would you then recommend - I've heard Gislaveds are good, my car has a mixture of scabby Goodyear Polyglas (*I think*) and Barums.

Is this at all possible, or am I just being too ambitious for my total lack of mechanical ability?

I agree the alloys you are after do look good.

I have a set of new firestone on my standard rims and they give good grip and feedback through the steering.

Would the money spent of getting these wheels right be not be better kept for emergencies. I only say this because just when you think a car is sorted out something always goes wrong (well it does for me).

If you do get them they will look very good! good luck bidding

Are those F560s? That's what I use & they seem good enough - decent price too. Most other stuff in 165R15 is either makes I've never heard of, or with too low a speed rating. Used to use Goodyear Grand Prix S until they became silly money / unavailable (can't remember which). Heard good reports about Gislaveds but those will have to wait until I need a complete set, rather than just a pair (I always replace tyres in pairs rather than on their own)

Back on topic....

Aren't these wheels composite, ie alloy centre & steel rim? If so, I would get them checked over by someone who really knows what they are looking at, as I've always been under the impression that these types of wheel can be problematic....

You cant beet the look of standard wheels powder coated with nice polished hubcaps if you ask me. Far cheaper and no hassle.

If those wheels you were looking at on ebay were standard fitment, people would be looking at replacing those as well!!

My memory tells me that the late P1800's PCD is 112 the same as 140's and 240's etc. The conversion is possible to does involve a fair bit of hassle. New alloy wheels are availble and not all that expensive. Personlay I would only ever run a show car on 165 tyres as the are sh1te!! If you like to push your amazon a little then fit some 195/65/15. Go for a good make aswell.
