Default Headlamps on a S40 2003

Does anyone know whether the headlamps on S40 2003 is automatic where if it is night time and the headlamps knob is turn on, it will automatically be switched on? During daylight, it will be switched off.

I asked because the last thing I want to do is forgot to switch off the lights and have a flat battery.

If you leave the headlight switch fully on the headlights will stay on with the ignition - i.e. They will be on all the time when you're driving (day and night) but go off when you switch the ignition off.
If you the headlight switch switched halfway on the sidelights will stay on constantly (even when ignition is off)

I just leave mine switched fully on all the time, the only time I ever touch the light switch is once a year, when the MOT tester turns the switch off during the test!

Thanks letting me know.
I thought it might be but I thought I better check just in case.
Wouldn't want the battery to be drained when I drive it the next day. :-)

Something simple to add... I didn't know and assumed my turn signal stalk was malfunctioning. If the headlamp switch is in the "off" position, pulling your turn signal stalk towards you, to turn on brights, will only momentarily flash them. Turning the headlamp switch to the up or ON position and your brights will remain on until you turn them off.

I was ready to purchase a new turn signal stalk until I RTFM...
