Fuel filter
Hi, I'm sure it's been asked and answered millions of times before, but I want to change my fuel filter on my petrol 2001 Volvo v40 can you tell how I detch the filter from the fuel lines and can you tell me what the air valve is for next to the filter its my first Volvo and I've never seen a valve on a fuel line. Like a car tyre valve.
Thanks for any help ! |

The valve once depressed will relive the fuel pressure, so be prepared for petrol to to come out. As for detaching the fuel filter there should be a black collar protruding from the metal bit which needs pushing towards the filter both ends. There is a special tool for this but I have in the past used a spanner but cannot recall what size, maybe a 13-14mm.
Depending on how much corrosion there is it maybe difficult to release.

There is in fact 2 which both have different pressured diaphragms. On the fuel and also one down on the fuel line where the original poster mentioned.

Take note of the direction arrow on the filter. On my 99 s40 the direction arrow faces the rear of the car because the fuel supply line goes towards the back then bends towards the engine.
