steering wheel vibration in V70 D5
Hi!
I recently test drove a V70 D5 2012 with low mileage (60k km) and there was quite a bit of engine noise and which is more annoying slight vibration on the steering wheel. I suspect the engine mounts went bad with time despite low mileage (happened on my C30), but want to make sure before buying. Is it normal to have vibration on a steering wheel in D5 Volvo or if it is a defect? |

You say the engine was noisy and vibration? It was only running on 4 cylinders was it? You’d probably feel it through the steering wheel.

Can’t help with the mounts, but I will say that mine is absolutely smooth and quiet (bar worn suspension) at nearly 300,000km (176,000 miles).
Unless the car is very cheap and you are handy with spanners I’d give it a miss. |

I would check drive shaft is there any play in it. What I had are vibrations coused by engine while engine was cold. Once it's warm, vibrations are gone. It was clogged EGR. Engine need more air while cold and didn't get enaught cause egr was clogged. |

I don't think so, I test drove several V70/XC70 and it was the case in all of them, except for the one from the year 2015. The vibration is slight and it was the worst during idling, when driving it is almost gone.

60,000 Km is very low for a 10 year-old diesel, so perhaps the car has some problems because it has done too many short journeys and not enough long journeys.
A better purchase might be a newer D5 that has travelled more kilometres. Last edited by Sotosound; Jun 5th, 2022 at 09:29. |
