Default Exhaust rear silencer replacement

I need to replace the rear section of the exhaust. Does anyone have any experience of differing quality?
The silencer has corroded and has a hole in it. I have obtained various prices for replacement. The information I have found online rarely gives any details about what materials are used.
I have found prices for Bosal, EEC, Klarius, Walker. Are they all much the same. Most replacements have a 2 year warranty. The original back box lasted 15+ years.
Any recommendations please? The volvo part number is 8638532. (for 2001 V70 2.4T petrol.)

I've never found a replacement exhaust last much longer than the warranty period before they fall to bits and need replaced again. It would probably not a lot more expensive to have a stainless steel back box made and you'll never have to change it again

I have seen prices online ranging from around £90 to £240 for a rear silencer box. are they all actually the same item, or of the same quality, or made of the same materials?

The rear silencer box is double skinned with some form of insulation material between the layers. I have obtained an extremely high quote to bespoke manufacture one form stainless steel, but nothing anywhere near the £90-£240 price range.

Here "on the other side" the Volvo part costs $434. (L 350)
One made by Starla (said to be OE Supplier) is $10 less.

Go here to look: https://www.fcpeuro.com/Volvo-parts/...ywords=8638532

Shoehorning some muffler into the available space back there could work but you'd risk too different a tone and would need an exhaust shop willing to do careful "fabrication". Forget them simply plying their craft (cutting and welding pipe). You're gonna get hit with "special work pricing".

Perhaps buying Volvo or Starla would "allow them" to just install it.

Sorry if I sound paranoid but recent times have granted all tradesmen license to overcharge for any reason they can think of.

Default Bite the bullet !

Had the same dilemma on my v70R 2003 . Bit the bullet and got a jetex cat back stainless system . Not too noisy and a increase in low down performance. I was surprised at the reasonable price when compared with genuine or aftermarket standard systems .

Try here:

https://www.ebay.co.uk/str/rsjexhausts

I got the middle pipe/silencer and rear silencer from them to replace my all in one system. Very knowledgeable to ensure I got the correct parts for my model/year.

If removing the middle pipe, remember to support the cat, which will drop with some force when you disconnect. (how do I know.... )

That looks a decent deal - I'd go for that if I needed one for my 2006 V70 D5.
Also that same Klarius part number VO382T is sold by other eBay sellers at a much higher price.

Any difference in quality between Klarius, Bosal, Walker or any others?
