Default 960 Exhaust.

Took my 96 965 24v for MOT yesterday....of course it passed, it's never failed. They called me over whilst it was up in the air, and showed me the rear silencer, which was looking crabby althought not gone YET !.
Not complaining, it is the original 15 year old with 82k on the clock.

The rest including the CAT was fine.

Is it possible to get the rear silencer off the pipe to renew, or is it a whole unit from the CAT backwards ??

Speak to your local motorfactors, they should be able to provide replacement parts without buying a full system.

Hi,

Rear box should be connected to the pipe that gores over the drive shaft.

Get a price from a volvo dealer and see how much they give them away for!
But they are good quality and last years - as you obviously have found out.

Not sure that the exhausts sold by Volvo up to OE standard but they are a lot better than factors ones in fit and lifespan. The price didn't seem too bad either, for my 940 at least.
Another thing to watch with some factors ones is that they are often made to fit the rest of their system and might not fit to your existing one.

Where the sections of pipe join the bond may well be good but when they are forced apart you can damage the section you plan to keep and have to replace that as well. I got my last full system (including cat) through Leisure Shack - they were the only ones I found using the correct pattern back box.
