Default 2006 S40 1.6 petrol what to change?

So I'm a happy owner of a 2006 S40.
The car has 56k miles on it and I'm guessing the timing belt has never been changed on it .
My question is I see the schedule to change one is about 80k miles. Should I get it changed? Even with its low miles?
Are they big money to change on these cars?
Looking to see what work I should do on it. Going to change the oil and filters myself. Car is starting tip of the key so the spark plugs must be in good condition.
Anything else I should look for?
Thanks

Personally I'd never let a timing belt go beyond 10yrs so I'd be changing that if there's any doubt about it having been done in 2016.

Other than that, service it according to schedule and you should be all good.

Thanks.
Do you have a rough idea on the cost to change the timing belt on these engines?
Waiting to hear back from my mechanic but would like to know a rough ball park figure .

Can't really help there as I've never owned a 1.6 petrol. Was about £600 on my T5 and £550 on my 1.6D.

Just checked on VIDA and the service schedule for your timing belt is 10yrs or 87500 miles whichever comes first.

The engine you have there is from the ford camp, so if your looking for an indi then anyone familiar with ford will be a good and probably economical choice.. and also for a relatively expensive job like a cambelt (the 1.8 and 2L petrols from that era use a timing chain so dont require replacement like toothed belts)

my answer would be change the oil..if you do nothing else ! especially if you dont know the history of the car as a starting point, its something also that is very do able even if you havent done any diy servicing before especially as there is no undertray on your version so draining oil is a doddle..

Yep going to change the oil tomorrow. Picked up 4 litres of Castrol 5w30 so should be enough. Need to get an oil filter and I can tackle it.
Regarding spark plugs. I read here that only Volvo ones should be used. Is the only place to get them a Volvo dealer?

Default S40 1.6 petrol .

Had a bit of a nightmare when i had my timing belt changed by a garage i will not use again . It seems that one of the pulleys seizing is a common problem so it needs replacing as part of the job . The garage sourced and aftermarket one which made a whining noise that they tried to tell me was the Alternator . The belt then slipped on it and trashed the Head . They did it FOC and then used a Volvo part instead . Whining magically disappeared and its been fine since . I would say get Volvo parts for this job . The job is so important , dont take any chances ...

Still nothing from the mechanic. Hopefully hear next week
Changed the oil and filter today. Oil wasnt pure black, just quite dark.
Anyway I had it on the jack's when I started it up and "anti skid temporarily disability" appeared on the dash with the abs light on.I thought ah f**k.
But must of been because it was on the stands when stands because disappeared a few meters down the road.
Noticed the auxiliary belt looks worn and noticed a piece missing on part of it. So need to change that next.

So I got the timing belt kit ,water pump and fan belt(alternator belt) done. All for €370.
Delighted to get it done so not so worried when driving it now.
Filled up for the 2nd time having the car(covid means sweet f all driving) worked out at 35mpg/7.9 L/100km. Seems about right.
