Single axle motor mover sought. ( WTB )
Over the past week or so I have been weighing up the fitting of a new motor mover to my caravan and had just about decided what to buy.
Was thinking possibly this next 7 - 14 days I'd be going to dealers to look. Then it struck me that it might be worth asking here first if anyone not too far away from me is selling one. Pref a longstanding forum member. I'd want to see it. It would need to be fully working and in reasonable condition with fittings for Al-ko chassis. Not the gritted roller type. My van has MTPLM of only 1215KG so any should do that. Not the jockey wheel driven type. Please PM me with details if you have a suitable mover you'd like to sell and we could possibly go forward from there. Colin

Not selling mine but just to say gritted rollers are not the end of the world, when the grit broke off mine I contacted Power wheel the maker and despite them being 11 years old they were able to supply new rollers which are of milled surface not gritted and come with new bearings. £60 for the pair, a lot cheaper than £400 for new mover.

I've had no offers of S/H movers as of yet so likely to buy new. £400 for a new mover .... I wish ( unless you know different ???? ). I'm likely to be paying ~ £500 with self fitting for a new mover later this week and that's a budget model though not the cheapest available. Going to be traveling to Bolsover Caravans to look at one in the flesh on Thursday all being well. Was meant to be going last Thurs but circumstances arose. Colin

Sorry the £400 was from an add in the camping and caravan club mag but on checking it was £499, marketing ploy and I fell into the trap.
I have found power wheel very helpful. Half way to Scotland I found I had lost my remote control ( for lost read left on the bumper and drove off) unfortunately as mine was a superseded model they no longer had spares, they sent a new controller and 2 remotes ( not getting caught again) overnight to my daughters house in Scotland where I picked it up and fitted it, not a cheap exercise by any means but got me out of a hole. The new controller and old wheel units refurbished so am hopefullyright for a few years. Paul. |

Why don't you try a dealer for a S/H one?
Some dealers remove them from there trade ins then sale new ones to the new purchaser. But I personally would only buy a Powertouch or Reich motor movers. |

I'd rather spend the £500 on a new unit and fit it myself. Thanks for the suggestion though - Colin

So on Thursday, as mentioned above, we had a trip to Derbyshire to have a look at the prospective mover I had chosen to see what the build quality was like and to buy if satisfied.
Being a budget priced mover I had doubts before seeing it but the build quality appeared good and I bought one. This is the mover I bought: http://www.bolsover-caravans.com/det...%26maxprice%3D I have completed most of the fitting today ( Monday ) and just have the tidying up of the wiring to do now. The caravan is still up on stands but all appears to be working as expected. Might not complete Tuesday as rain is forecast for here. From a label on the unit it would appear that the units are actually manufactured in Bury, Lancs and during my searching I did see other motor movers that looked to be ( exactly ) the same but with a different suppliers branding and all of those were more expensive. Fitting it myself not only saved me some cash but also allowed me to Waxoyl some of the mover parts to hopefully ward off rusting in years to come. They are already painted though. The unit came with comprehensive fitting instructions and everything was neatly packed in separate poly bags for all the small parts. Absolutely everything is included. ATM this would appear to be the least expensive unit available in the UK, though OBELINK have a cheaper unit on their website. I believe they are dispatched from their warehouse on the continent though so inspection for build quality would not have been an option. Bolsover have a demonstration trailer fitted out with one of these movers and the guy there explained the use of the unit. We also had a nice day in Chesterfield that cost less in diesel than the postage cost of the mover would have cost ( TDI magic MPG ). Time will tell whether this budget mover lives up to expectations but from indications so far I am thinking it will for my 1215 Kg MTPLM caravan. I'm aching a bit tonight though through crawling about on the floor and fitting the unit. Colin

Fixit man?
I know a fixit man who could do the job, but he (like me) is in Kent. No use to you. Have you tried ebay?

Im glad you have found one and got it fitted saving you a few pounds doing so.
I have seen these and they seem to work well but they are basically the same price as the powertouch mover. Where you quoted for one of them? |
