Default xc90 Parking Brake Pedal Clonks in upright position

Hi, I'm new to this forum having just brought my first Volvo, a 2007 xc90 Executive D5 and its a really lovely car.

However, I've noticed when I disengage the parking break (using the lever on the right, near the headlight switches) the parking break pedal comes up quickly and clonks as it reaches its upward position. Is there meant to be some sort of damper under the dashboard to prevent the clonking noise or is this just how they are on the xc90's?

Your advice would be most appreciated.
Thanks,
Alan

It's normal, although there is a small buffer, the force with which the pedal is released means it's still noisy - Should be a dull thud though, if it's metallic, then the buffer may have fallen off/perished. You can eliminate the noise by pressing slightly on the pedal as you release it, allowing your foot to control it's movement.

Yep, surprised me too when I first got my XC90. Just get into the habit of covering it with your foot when you release the brake. Quite silent then.

OK thanks for your feedback, much appreciated. I'll get used to it I guess.

Treat it like a clutch pedal.....no noise at all then!
