Were you working on it at the time? Things can get a little rusty under there!

It is the bolt at the end of the steel wire that holds all other hardware that holds the spare wheel.

Ah, I see. Mines different, so I was struggling to visualise it.

You could fashion something using wire clamps to hold a larger washer through the hardware. I don't think all is lost, just some ingenuity needed there I reckon.

Good luck.

Hard to tell from photo if the bolt is threaded or serrated. Looking at end of the 'nut', I'm wondering if the flattened sides indicate it was crimped in place?

The original wire is not crimped to the bolt. It seems that the end is connected to the bolt internals and just snapped off. So I managed to "crimp" the end into the bolt by knocking the bolt end with a chisel. Boy that was tough.

On installation, I've secured the wheel using a rope as secondary support through the towing point and a hole at the rear axle. I couldnt find another point at the left of the rear bumper (exhaust side) to make the tie-down more "balanced".

Lastly, i used zip tie to secure the spring hardware to the wheel. Hopefully if the bolt snaps again, I can still retain the spring, washer and the lifting plate.

I certainly wont consider buying a new set of winch that cost around £90. Mine is still relatively new when it broke and what guarantee it wont broke on the new parts?
