My 1961 Amazon was purchased in Nigeria and then imported to Scotland and has a vinyl front bench seat which appears to be a US option.
I would like to get it re-furbished and looking for advice on companies that could do it. Those I have contacted in Scotland are all comfortable with the fabric part of the job, but I think the wire bracing & springs need replaced as they are quite badly corroded and the springs are weak. Can’t find anyone able to do this part. Any sources of a used bench seat would also be great, but I realise these are like hens teeth ! Also looking for 129-178 light brown vinyl which none of the usual suppliers have, but I’m pretty sure I’ll be able to find something close. Any advice on this gratefully received too. Thanks, Mark |

Hello, and Welcome.
I believe that only the models designated as 122s were imported to N America. I.e. Sport models with B18D and bucket seats. Bench seat might have been an option only with gear lever on the steering column , is this what you have? It also appears that the bench seat option is the reason the parking/emergency brake is outboard of the seat for all models. Full story here: http://www.volvoamazonpictures.se/mo...modelyears.php |

Thanks for the reply. I exchanged some emails with the volvoamazonpictures guys a few years ago and they actually updated some of their information on the basis of my car ! It is a 121, B16 with normal floor gear change but has a vinyl headlining and vinyl bench seat which was original to the car (but look like US options). Makes sense they would have put the parking brake outboard because of that...

Bench seat often fitted to "export" Amazons in the early years. Up to 1964 I think. As said they would also have column gear change. There used to be a couple about that had been brought back from Cyprus by Army or RAF members. Some markets like to get the extra people in as it effectively made it a six seater. Perhaps ask at Austin/Morris clubs. They had similar seating in the Cambridge and Oxford models of that era. Established trim shops are used to working with spring type interiors so that shouldn't be a problem. If your current seat covering is usable as patterns that will also make the job easier, and cheaper maybe.
