Question Rear springs

When I bought my V70 D5 (gen 3) in 2009 I was towing a failrly nose heavy caravan which made the back of the car sit too low. I bought a new pair of MAD springs (boxed as Ford Galaxy) which solved the problem but gave a very hard solo ride.

I have recently changed caravans and this one has a loaded nose weight of
70 -80 kg and I'm thinking of having the original springs re fitted.

Question, for those of you towing with original Volvo springs does the car sit level ? what nose weight do you tow with ?

Thanks

Default V70 Rear springs

I have the standard rear springs on my 2000 V70, and found they needed 'beefing up' - the car sat noticeably lower with the caravan on. I fitted Grayston spring assistors (Donuts) The car now sits level, noseweight is around 75kg. Barely drops when hitched up. Have not noticed the ride to be too firm. Used them for around 8 years now. Easy to fit, using plenty of washing up liquid.

How would spring assistors work with Nivomat suspension ? Is there a need for them ?

No need for any assisters with Nivomats as they automatically compensate for any increased load.
My last 2 cars have had them and they can cope with anything.

Reviving the original question, which answered a question for me about the mad suspension springs. The answer to the original question, my p3 v70 also sags when towing with 75kg nose weight. I tried the greys ton rings and this sorted things out, but again makes the solo ride hard and also raises the empty ride height slightly. It seems from other posts that the original rear suspension on p3 is not as beefy as earlier versions.

What is the advantage of spring assisters apart from the making the rear look level?
I ask because I always carry some weight in the boot which makes the back sag. I've been tempted to be the odd one out and retro fit nivomats, but that's a bit extreme just to have the car look level.

Wink Original poster back

Changed the springs back to the Volvo original. Have towed with noseweights between 75kg and 90kg and now have a much better ride. No sagging either.

Thanks for input
